Taylor Dynamometer redesigns its RS-40K towing dyno

Taylor Dynamometer has redesigned its RS-40K towing dynamometer. Built for testing today’s DOT vehicles (Classes 5 and 6), including trucks and buses, a recent customer program inspired a redesign of the RS-40K. The overall configuration of the system is now shorter, while a single axle design has been adopted.
“At Taylor Dynamometer, we pride ourselves on exceeding our customers’ expectations by providing them with the products and services they need to succeed in the engine and vehicle testing markets. Our RS-40K is a perfect example of this,” said Eric Miles, regional business consultant, Taylor Dynamometer.
“This redesign improved the overall versatility of the dyno, therefore improving the testing range and usability for the customer.”
The RS-40K features a heavy-duty steel frame, an industrial axle, and sits on an air ride suspension system. It is designed to maintain 40,000N (8,992 lb-ft) of constant drawbar force and can simulate a slope of 25%. The dyno uses eddy current absorbers with special high temperature coils. Power is provided by an industrial generator and at low speeds, testing is unlimited.
